Tomorrow is Valentines day! While it’s never been one of my favorite holidays, I love the opportunity to decorate with pink and sparkle. Our faux mantel got some love dumped on it just for the occasion. Want to see?
The spray painted branches, heart ornaments and geometric ornaments are left over from last year. The ribbon was a clearance find after Valentines day 2012, and the mailboxes on their little candlesticks were a big trend last year. You can find the tutorial for the white burlap wreath here, and instructions for printing on dropcloth to make art similar to mine here.
Today I need to find the time to add the kids’ initials to the mailboxes. They’re already wondering what they’re going to find in there on Valentine’s day, and at midnight last night I woke up with an idea. It’s ridiculous how that works.
The chalkboard was made by removing the glass from an old and outdated print I had laying around in storage. I simply painted the existing matte blue and the print itself with chalkboard paint. Obviously inspiration has not struck for what it should say, but there you go. The I printed off the printables last year. (Sources: Bee Mine. Subway art ) The candle stand was purchased at Ace Hardware of all places, and was a gift from James, and just needed a few heart shaped ornaments to make it sparkle. The dollar tree vase on the right was filled with paper shreds from the walmart gift wrap section and topped off with some faux flowers.
I also threw a heart printed tablecloth on the dining room table, which really is the cherry on the construction mess out there. And I decorated my kids made a few tees for the littles, especially my little boy, to wear for preschool parties. You can find them, with simple instructions, here. You absolutely have time to make them before school tomorrow.
Happy Valentine’s Day- I hope you get to squeeze someone special!
